Hurricane Laura is currently in the central Gulf of Mexico and will continue strengthening through Wednesday and is expected to become a major hurricane. Laura is forecast to make landfall along the southeast Texas or southwest Louisiana coastlines Wednesday Night. The main impacts expected for South Texas are minor coastal flooding and an increased rip current risks.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from early Wednesday morning through Thursday evening as impacts from Hurricane Laura begin to reach the Middle Texas coast. 1-3ft of inundation can be expected with the higher amounts closer to Port O'Connor.
Lows in the upper 70s to lower 80s accompanied by light winds and partly cloudy skies. Streamer showers possible along the coast and nearshore waters overnight.
Long period swells from Tropical Storm Marco will lead to a MODERATE risk of rip currents today and a HIGH risk on Wednesday. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible both days. Please exercise extreme caution if heading to area beaches. Rip currents are difficult to see and can be deadly. Remember to swim parallel to the shore if caught in a rip current.
Hot and humid conditions continue into early next week, with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms each day. High temperatures will exceed 100 degrees for inland locations, Thursday through Saturday, with slightly cooler readings Sunday and Monday. Lows generally 75 to 80 degrees, with lower 80s along the coast.
